Privacy Policy
Effective October 21, 2026
The short version: we collect what we need to show you nearby businesses, count demand fairly and keep people safe. We don’t sell your information. Live streams aren’t recorded. You can ask us to delete your account at any time.
This policy explains how Requesting (“Requesting,” “we,” “us”) handles information when you use the Requesting app and requestingapp.com (together, the “Service”).
What we collect
Account information. If you create an account: your name, email address, password (stored scrambled; we can’t read it), and optionally your phone number and city, state and ZIP code. Business owners also give us the business name, type, phone number, social links, hours, menu, logo and photos.
Phone verification. Business owners confirm a mobile number with a one-time text code. We store the number and when it was confirmed.
Location.
- If you allow it, we use your phone’s location to show businesses and demand near you. We don’t keep a history of where you’ve been.
- When you demand a business, we store the spot you picked (about one block) and the time slot.
- Business owners who tap Start driving share their location while driving so customers can track them. It stops when they park. Posted spots are shown publicly until the posted end time.
- If you save a Home or Work spot for demand alerts, we store those spots to know which alerts to send you.
Demand without an account. To count one demand per phone, the app creates a random ID stored on your phone. We also record your IP address to stop one network from flooding a slot. If you ask to be notified, we keep the phone number or email you give us for that.
Notifications. If you allow push notifications, we store your phone’s push token so we can send alerts you asked for, such as a booking you demanded, a business you follow going live or selling out, or demand near your saved spots. Promotional messages (Deals & announcements) are only sent if you turn them on in Settings, and you can turn them off at any time. We don’t send marketing texts or emails without your separate consent.
Things you post. Reviews, owner replies, live stream comments and reports. Reviews and comments show your first name only. Live comments are deleted about an hour after a stream ends.
Live video. Live streams are sent in real time to viewers and are not recorded or stored by Requesting.
Square (business owners, optional). If you connect Square, we receive read-only access to your item catalog and business name so we can import your menu. You can disconnect at any time.
Usage and device information. Basic technical information needed to run the Service, such as app version, device type and error logs.
We don’t collect payment information. Customers pay businesses directly, in person.
How we use it
- To run the Service: show nearby businesses, count demand, book slots, show live locations, streams and arrival times.
- To send the notifications, texts and emails you ask for, plus important account messages.
- To keep Requesting trustworthy: review new businesses, verify owners’ phones, enforce the no-show policy, investigate reports and prevent abuse.
- To understand what’s working and improve the Service.
What other people can see
- Business profiles, menus, posted spots, booked stops, live streams and live locations while driving are public.
- Open demands show the business, block and time, and how many people asked. They never show who asked.
- Reviews and live comments show your first name.
- Businesses never see the identity, phone number or email of customers who demanded them or reported them.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with companies that help us run the Service, under agreements that limit how they can use it:
- Supabase: database, accounts and file storage
- LiveKit: live video streaming
- Twilio: phone verification texts
- Resend: email
- Expo: push notifications
- Mapbox and Apple Maps: maps, routes and arrival times
- Square: menu import, only if a business owner connects it
- Cloudflare: website hosting
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy will still apply to your information.
How long we keep it
We keep account information while your account is open. Posted spots and live locations expire on their own. Live comments are deleted about an hour after a stream ends. Demand records are kept for about 90 days for insights and to prevent abuse. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your information within 30 days, except where we need to keep something to meet a legal obligation or resolve a dispute.
Your choices
- Turn location and notifications on or off at any time in your phone’s settings.
- Edit your details in the app under Account.
- Delete your review, or turn off Home and Work demand alerts, in the app.
- Ask for a copy of your information, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing support@requestingapp.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state law, and we’ll honor them.
Children
The Service isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. Business accounts are for adults 18 and older. A lemonade stand or fundraiser run by kids should be listed by a parent or guardian on their own account. If you believe a child under 13 gave us information, email us and we’ll delete it.
Security
We use encryption in transit, access rules on every database table, and keep secret keys on our servers rather than in the app. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you as the law requires.
Changes
If we make important changes to this policy, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
